“ Casa Adela is a hidden gem on Manhattan's Lower East Side, serving up authentic Puerto Rican cuisine that feels like a warm hug from a treasured family member. From the moment you step inside, the vibrant decor and the inviting aroma of home-cooked meals transport you straight to the heart of the island. To start, I couldn't resist the crispy alcapurrias, which were perfectly fried and bursting with flavor. The blend of yucca and plantain gave them a unique texture, and they were even better dipped in the tangy, homemade salsa that accompanied the dish. Each bite was a reminder of why I love Puerto Rican food so much. For the main course, I went all in with the pollo guisado, stewed chicken that is simply to die for. The chicken was incredibly tender and seasoned to perfection, It came with a side of arroz blanco con habichuelas negra. The flavors took me back to family gatherings filled with laughter and joy, a testament to the authenticity of the cooking here. My wife has the Mofongo con camarones. This dish is an absolute must-try and exemplifies everything wonderful about traditional Puerto Rican cuisine. From the moment the dish arrived at the table, she knew she was in for a treat. The mofongo, made from perfectly fried green plantains, was incredibly fragrant and had a delightful texture--crunchy on the outside and wonderfully soft on the inside. It's mashed with garlic and pork cracklings, creating a rich and savory base that is both comforting and addictive. The shrimp that accompanied the mofongo were plump, juicy, and cooked to perfection. They were sautéed in a delectable garlic sauce that added a wonderful depth of flavor. Every bite was a harmonious blend of the bold, garlicky shrimp and the buttery, savory mofongo, making for a delightful explosion of taste. What truly sets these dishes apart is the care and authenticity that Casa Adela pours into every plate. Each ingredient shines, and you can feel the love of home-cooked meals in every bite. The portion size is generous, ensuring you'll leave satisfied, but you'll probably want to savor every moment and not rush through it. The service was warm and friendly, making you feel right at home. You can tell that the staff genuinely cares about the food and the experience of their guests, which made my visit even more special. Overall, Casa Adela is a must-visit for anyone craving true Puerto Rican flavors in the heart of Manhattan. It's a wonderful spot for both those who are familiar with the cuisine and newcomers alike. I left with a satisfied belly and a heart full of joy, eagerly awaiting my next visit! ”
“ I've always loved Puerto Rican food since I was a kid, but after coming back from my first trip to PR a month ago, I've been craving it soo much and none of my usual NY places have been hitting the same. We heard that Casa Adela had the best Puerto Rican food so we decided to take a drive and try it. The place has a few tables for dining but it was full when we came, so we decided to do takeout. The food was still hot when we got home. I had the arroz con gandules (my favorite thing ever) and pernil. We also got alcapurrias. Everything was so delicious and portion sizes were great! They even gave the cuero which is my favorite part of the pernil. The best authentic Puerto Rican food I've had in NY. Get some cash and go try it! ”
“ This is one of my top three favorite restaurants in New York City. Casa Adela is my go-to in Nueva York for Puerto Rican food. You can't miss the place, seeing that there are banderas all over the place; it's your fault if you miss it. This is some downhome cooking, very much like what abuelita used to make. You can feel the love and dedication put into the cooking. It's a little slice of "el campo" in Loisaida. Don't expect super rapid service at Casa Adela, at least outside the holidays. That is not a knock, it's a place where you go with the flow. I like the laid-back atmosphere and the friendly, warm vibe that permeates one of the best food joints around, not just NYC. I'd give more than five stars if I could. ”
“ Delicious. Visiting from California and tasted Puerto Rican food for the first time. The staff was patient in recommending items from the menu. Mofongo - YUM. Would definitely order again. Arroz y habichuelas - flavorful, elevated rice and beans. Pollo asado - tasty but added some salsa to moisten it up Great restaurant for lunch and would definitely recommend ”
“ Cash only! The rotisserie chicken with rice and beans was delicious! I think these were the best beans I've ever had. I also got a chicken pastelillo. Not bad for just $2.50 in NYC, but if I came back I would prob wouldn't reorder. We went around 2:30pm and ended up waiting for about 20-30 min for a big group ahead of us to finish up. There's one table that can seat up to 8 people, 2 tables that seat 4 people, and one more table that can seat 6 people. I think there's a bathroom in the back. There's no AC of course. This is one of those neighborhood establishments that remains happily in the twentieth century with its cash only and handwritten receipts. ”
